The Alumni Schools Committee (ASC) contributes to and supports the College Admissions' efforts to recruit incoming first-year and transfer students to the University of Chicago. With over 3,000 alumni members in the United States and around the world, ASC volunteers represent the Admissions Office in their home communities by conducting interviews of prospective students and serving as ambassadors of the University of Chicago at local college fairs and informal receptions, and in off-campus interviews with prospective students. Through these interactions, our alumni help prospective students gain an understanding of all that UChicago offers its undergraduates—a rich set of experiences (academic, research, extracurricular, social, athletic, artistic), plus a strong network of support (the housing system, college advisors, career services and internships).
Through participation in the ASC, you will have an opportunity to convey how the University of Chicago has made an important difference in your life. The alumni interview is often the only face-to-face conversation that the applicant has with someone who has actually experienced life in the College, and this conversation is often instrumental in the student's decision to enroll.
Our ability to connect with students—and engage in conversations about their personal interests as well as the College's outstanding academic programs and extracurricular activities—depends on enthusiastic volunteer support from alumni like you. We greatly value the time, energy, and enthusiasm that ASC volunteers bring to admissions work. Last year our volunteers interviewed almost 5,000 prospective students. Our applicant pool continues to grow, and there is much work to be done!
